"Moving Beyond Community Theater"
Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts presents
Dr. Susan Steadman Susan M. Steadman, Ph.D. has spent over three decades directing, teaching, and writing for and about theatre. Over the years she has helmed nearly 70 plays for professional, alternative, educational and community theatres. She has taught acting and directing at colleges, theatre companies, conferences, recreation departments and public and private schools. A Dramatists Guild member, she has seen her plays produced in states ranging from New Jersey to Texas. She has also authored numerous publications on theatrical literature and practice, including the critically lauded book, Dramatic Re-Visions. Along the way she has written and produced television and radio commercials and taught writing for these media in university classes. In addition to her academic background--a degree in English, summa cum laude, from William Smith College; a Master’s in Educational Theatre from New York University; and a Ph.D. in Theatre from Louisiana State University--she studied acting in New York at such schools as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She has been Producing Artistic Director of Offshoot Productions, a nonprofit, professional theatre company, since 1993. We are pleased to offer instruction from some of the most notable instructors in the Atlanta area, a few of which are mentioned above. Each program will provide opportunities for students to perform.
