Michiyo
Hayashi-Tanski
Michiyo Hayashi-Tanski began dancing at the Matsuyama Ballet School in
Japan and continued training with the West Street School at Covent
Garden in London.
She performed with the Matsuyama Ballet as a soloist and with the
Gothenburg Opera Ballet in Sweden as a principal artist. Michiyo joined
Ballet West in 1998 and was promoted to soloist in 1999 and principal in
2000 until her retirement in 2007. Michiyo has received numerous awards
including The Svenska Dagbladets Operapris, The Ulf Gadd Stipendium, The
Carina Aris Memorial Foundation Stipendium and The Gnistan Art and
Culture Award.
She was voted Best Female Dancer by Dance Europe in 1997 and was awarded
Best Female Dancer at The Suzanne Dellal International Dance Competition
in Tel Aviv.
Michiyo has performed the lead role in Peter Schaufuss’s La Sylphide,
Robert Cohen’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Balanchine’s Theme and
Variation,, Romeo and Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and the
Nutcracker. |
