Frequently Asked Questions:
Why private lessons?
This enables the student to have a far superior atmosphere of learning. It
enables the student to learn at their own pace and instructors can work on
individual weaknesses and strengths.
Private lessons offers a great opportunity for in-school band and orchestra
students to enhance their technique and progress at a much faster pace -
without the intimation of a large group setting.
Will students perform?
Yes - Recitals will be conducted at least once per year
Will students participate in
competitions?
The instructor will select intermediate to advanced students to participate
in Music Teachers National Association yearly competitions.
Where will the lessons be conducted?
All music and voice lessons will be conducted in private music rooms with
viewing windows at Georgia Academy of Dance & the Performing Arts
What age should my child start music lessons?
Piano - Age 6 & up
This class involves learning all of the fundamentals of playing the piano
and reading music
- Acoustic Guitar - Ages 8 & up
This class involves learning all the fundamentals of playing the guitar -
basic techniques of position, fingering, chords and reading music
This class is also offered in small group settings of 6 students.
- Classical Guitar - Ages 11 & up
This class involves learning the advanced concepts of finger style guitar
and reading music
Introduction to Voice – Ages 6, 7 & 8
This class involves instruction in building foundations that last and
developing essential skills for growing voices.

Voice – Ages 9 and up
This class involves instruction in building a foundation, developing proper
singing techniques and ensuring the proper use of the voice (posture,
breathing, warm-ups, tone, diction, rhythm, etc.)
-Advanced Voice Instruction - Ages 13 & up
for the serious voice student - beginner to advanced
-Strings - Ages 4-17

Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass)
Musical Styles: Classical, Jazz, Contemporary, Blue Grass/Fiddle
String Method: Traditional Violin method (Suzuki method is not
used)
Levels:
Beginner Level - This class involves learning all the fundamentals
of playing a string instrument - basic techniques of position, fingering,
note reading, rhythmic reading, and ear training.
Intermediate Level - This class involves learning technical aspects
of string playing - finger positions and shifting, vibrato, rhythmic
reading, scales and arpeggios (1octave), ear training,shifting, bow styles,
and Music Theory.
Advance Level - This class explores more advance technical
skills and nuances of string playing - shifting (beyond third
position), vibrato, rhythmic and melodic improv, scales and arpeggios
(2octaves and above), ear training, artistic expression, musical styles &
genres, bow styles, and advance Music Theory and History.

Summer
Music Programs
Classes may be scheduled for 1/2 hour weekly
private lessons in piano, guitar, voice, strings and musical theater

Children’s Choir Intensive
Ages 6 and up. The choir program teaches vocal basics in a fun group
session.
Students learn proper warm-up and breathing exercises, and an introduction
to
harmony. The choir works on a wide range of musical styles from contemporary
Disney songs to historical folk songs and classical choral songs.
One hour daily sessions.
Admission is by audition.
Class minimum is 5. Class maximum is 12.

Musical Theatre Intensive
Ages 7 & up. This program
teaches more advanced vocal technique and material in a fun group session
coupled with dance routines. The intensive will consists of a wide range of
musical styles from contemporary Disney songs to broadway classics. Two
forty five minute daily sessions, one focused on vocal component, the other
on the dance routine. Admission is by audition.
Class minimum is 5. Class maximum is 12.

orchestra and symphony groups.

MUSIC EDUCATORS

Eric Clay
Piano, Acoustic, Classical & Electric Guitar
Eric Clay has nineteen
years experience as a professional musician and music educator. Several of his
former students are music teachers and industry professionals. In addition,
Mr. Clay is also a mentor to beginning music educators. His instruction is
well rounded with emphasis on performance skills and music theory. Mr. Clay
is
currently studying jazz and holiday music and maintains a professional music
studio in his home. Mr. Clay also enjoys years of experience as an accompanist
for church and school functions.
Mr. Clay's students will have the opportunity to participate in recitals and
competitions.
Mr. Clay offers instruction in songwriting and composition to any students
interested in enhancing their music education.
Mr. Clay holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and is
planning to attend University of West Georgia to obtain his master’s degree in
Elementary Education.

Dr. Franklin Green
Advanced Voice
Dr. Franklin Green has degrees from
the University of Georgia
and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
During his career, he has served as a church musician, public school
choral director, and college professor.
He served on the voice faculty for Georgia
College and State University
in Milledgeville. His choirs
have been nationally recognized, singing for state, regional, and national
conventions for choral directors.
He was formerly a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and
the ASO Chamber Chorus under the direction of Robert Shaw.
Dr. Green has been a guest soloist with many regional colleges,
universities, and choral societies and is sought after as a judge and
clinician. He currently teaches
privately and directs the
Georgia
Singers. Georgia Singers,
Inc. is a Georgia Non-Profit Corporation which sponsors two community choirs
for young women from grade 7 through young adults with fifty members.
Dr. Green is also the Coordinator of the Lexus Scholarships for the
Stars program which annually provides $25,000 in college scholarships for
future music majors from Fayette County.
Dr. Green is a member of the National Association of Teachers of
Singing (NATS) and on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Division of the
American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA).

Rachel Bowen
Voice - all levels
Ms. Bowen is a graduate of Atlanta Christian College with a degree in music.
Her specialization is vocal performance and pedagogy. She teaches her
students proper posture, breathing, diction, and correction of various vocal
faults. Ms. Bowen's students study all genres of music and learn music
theory to assist them in becoming a well rounded musician. Ms. Bowen also
focuses on the performance aspect of singing. She teaches the importance of
connecting with the audience and conveying a message through song. Ms. Bowen
has competed and placed in various vocal competitions which includes From
the Ground Up hosted by Alicia Keys. She has toured the southeast showcasing
her talents at various events. Ms. Bowen was a member of One Accord -
Atlanta Christian College's twelve member audition only ensemble. She also
received the Excellence in Musical Performance award while in college. She
currently works with the children's choir at her church and assists with
children's musicals and performances.
Christina Sampson
Strings
Violin, Viola, Cello
Ms. Sampson has a solid background in music education with strong emphasis
in Music Theory, History, String and Vocal Performance. She is skilled in
developing and implementing Orchestra and Choral program curriculums and in
preparing ensembles for competitions at both the local and national levels.
She is a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana with a Bachelor of Music
in Music Education. She also holds a Masters of Education from Central
Michigan University.
Ms. Sampson is also a Certified Music Educator in the state of Georgia for
Pre-K thru 12 grade for all levels of instruction.
Ms. Sampson has performed professionally with such dynamic musical artists
as
Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson.
Presently, Ms. Sampson teaches music for the Henry County school system.
